M.I.A. gets video banned from YouTube, announces tracklisting, asks for album title suggestions, devours world

Looks like someone took a Web 2.0 marketing class! M.I.A. has been causing quite a stir lately with her internet presence. Yesterday, she unveiled her ultraviolent new video for “Born Free” on her official website. Shit was so violent — poor stupid redheads! — that the video was banned from YouTube because apparently YouTubers don’t like “gratuitous violence.” (But THIS isn’t gratuitous?)

Meanwhile, M.I.A. announced the tracklist of her forthcoming album on Pitchfork’s Twitter — via Twitpic no less. No album title just yet, but she’s taking suggestions. I’d like to officially suggest “Mango Starr.”

The album’s due June 29 on N.E.E.T/XL Recordings/Interscope.
