The Mountain Goats’ new album, All Eternals Deck, is being lovingly released by Merge on March 29, but according to Merge’s Guide to Indie Rock Success (co-written by Simon Reynolds), the M. Goats must either tour in support of the new album or hope for a favorable review on popular website Pitchfork. Latter’s pretty tough, though — Hell, I should know: my band Mango Starr & The Hurlers released a new album last year called Gold-Minded, and it only received a 7.6 with no “Best New Music”! — and since I doubt their new album can be filed under chillwave or hypnagogic pop, I think they made the right move when they booked a tour with Megafaun.
