Avant-garde stalwarts The Necks, fresh off the critical laudation of their latest album Vertigo (EUREKA!, indeed), have announced their first North American tour since 2011, and you better believe it’s going to be a doozy. Yes, you’ll finally be able to bear witness to one of their revelatory, transcendent, entirely improvised live sets in the comfort of your familiar national borders. But can we make this not about you for once? You see, 2016 marks the legendary Australian trio’s 30th anniversary as a band! A remarkable milestone for any group, sure, but considering how they’ve somehow managed to maintain such a high level of quality throughout those three decades (witchcraft, probably), I think some champagne might be in order. The good stuff too, none of that Andre swill for these boys.
Check the dates below, as well as a video of the band performing a piece called “Ohioan” at Jazzhouse in Copenhagen. You can also stream Vertigo and their previous Northern Spy-released album Open at their Bandcamp here.
