No comedian deserves to be in the realm of music news more than the legendary Neil Hamburger. The persona Gregg Turkington created has spanned decades to become a charming staple of Drag City. Real life and character are blurred further in the upcoming Rick Alverson film, Entertainment, where Turkington captures the lonely void of the small-time touring comedian. Entertainment won’t be available in local art theaters or VOD/iTunes until November 13, but in the meantime, you can soak in the grotesquely essential presence of Hamburger on tour.
Drag City released First of Dismay last year, which included musical numbers betwixt the cough-up, queasy stand-up of Hamburger. If you’re a music fan, and I assume you are (if not, what the fuck are you doing here?), then a person like you will marvel in the one-liners ruled by legendary rock references, such as “What’s the worst part about being gang raped by Crosby, Stills, and Nash? No Young.” See? You’re on board now. Listen to your dad’s old records, and then go see Neil Hamburger yell at you for being an obnoxious millennial.
