As America guzzled down its eighth Bud Light and soaked up extreme levels of sunshine on its 88th annual Labor Day, New Order announced that they will be re-forming to play two shows in October. However, this reunion isn’t as complete as it could be: The Quietus is reporting that founding member Peter Hook will not be involved, but that keyboardist Gillian Gilbert, who has not played with the band in over 10 years, will be a part of the reformation.
Now, while excitement shoots up your spine following this groundbreaking news, let me temper it with harsh reality: New Order are not reuniting just to give Europeans better music to dance to but are instead hoping to raise money for their friend, filmmaker Michael Shamberg, who is currently very, very ill. Shamberg, for those who don’t know, directed a handful of New Order’s early music videos and should be very angry that his friend can’t help him out and just play a couple gigs.
Anyway, check out the dates below:
10.17.11 - Brussels, Belgium - Ancienne Belgique
10.18.11 - Paris, France - La Bataclan
