FOLKY MINNEAPOLIS-BASED JANGLE-POP DUO ALERT: The folky Minneapolis-based jangle-pop duo Night Moves (comprised of John Pelant and Micky Alfano) would like to announce to the world that their new album (and follow-up to 2012 debut Colored Emotions) is all finished being recorded and mixed and mastered and pressed and everything, and it’s even got its very own shiny new release date and record label! (March 25 and Domino, respectively.)

The new thing is called Pennied Days, and according to its press release, it’s both “breezy” and “pleasurable,” even though it was tough as balls to make. “A lot of the songs are about trying to find yourself and what your future will look like and who you are — life overall,” says Pelant. And as such, the recording sessions for the album “stretched far longer than anticipated, with the music veering from Flaming Lips-influenced doomsday dirges to the folky, laidback material the band were known for, and so eventually producer John Agnello was introduced to help steer things back on course, resulting in a 9 song collection of future folk-rock, paisley-tinged guitar licks, and even a piano jam or two.”

Sounds cool, right? End of news story, right? WRONG. See, unlike most albums throughout rock & roll history, this one comes with an experimental promotional tool (still in its beta stages) called a “first single,” the idea being sharing a song early can help promote an album IN ADVANCE OF THAT ALBUM’S RELEASE. Diabolical… but brilliant! And true.

In this case, that first single is called “Denise, Don’t Wanna See You Cry,” and its accompanying music video was directed by Anthony Sylvester (who also directed vids for the Shamir tracks “In For The Kill” and “On The Regular” videos) and shot in upstate New York late last year.

You can check out the video down below, after which you can consider “pre-ordering” the album (which is another new-fangled marketing idea where you buy a thing before it actually comes out and then have it delivered to you “automatically” when it DOES come out). In this case, you have you choice of pre-ordering it either “digi-style” (i.e., as a slew of computer files via iTunes) or “doggystyle” (i.e., as a deluxe LP, which includes “a limited edition 10 inch with three bonus tracks” and an insta-download of that “Denise” single via the Domino Mart). The amazing choice is yours.
