Hey there, sports fans! I think you clicked onto the wrong site! This here news post is all about an indie-rock/indie-folk/folk-rock/alt-rock/rock-folk/ctrl-alt band called Okkervil River. Specifically, it’s about how, on September 3, said band will be releasing a brand new album of (I assume) indie-rock/indie-folk/folk-rock/alt-rock/rock-folk/ctrl-alt goodness. Nothing really too athletic or competition-based involved, I guess. But tell you what, I’ll try to make this as sports-like as possible for you, okay?
For example, this newest release marks the band’s first time up to bat for ATO Records (their previous stuff being kicked-out for the Bloomington Jagjaguwars), and ooh, get this — it’s called The Silver Gymnasium, and gymnastics are a sport, right? See, this isn’t so bad, huh? Additional details and tracklists (think starting line-up) and stuff are still forthcoming, but let’s see, what else… oh. It follows 2011’s pretty dense and hairy I Am Very Far (TMT Review), which pretty much sounded like bandleader Will Sheff asked an entire offensive line to play on it. Also, the band is hitting the road shortly after the new album comes out, which is sort of like how a road series works in baseball, only a heck of a lot longer. So see? There you go; indie-rock music can be brawny too (just please do yourself a favor and don’t google any pictures of Will Sheff).
