Religion? You can have it. Old Time Relijun? That’s good enough for me.
Old Time Relijun had been a fixture on the K Records/Olympia scene for years before what turned out to be a mysterious decade-long hiatus. But now, the band’s Catharsis in Crisis lineup — bandleader Arrington de Dionyso, Germaine Baca (drums), Aaron Hartman (upright bass), and Benjamin Hartman (saxophone and percussion) — is back to play its Trump card with musical proof that none of its signature sardonic style has been eroded by time. Their story so far suggests that if anyone can pull of the unexpected, it’s them.
Ahead of OTR’s forthcoming See Now and Know EP — out December 8 on K Records — have a taste of what’s in store via TMT’s exclusive stream of OTR’s charged “El Naranjo Gritando,” streaming down below. With an opening line that translates from Spanish to “The Big Orange is screaming in the House,” it doesn’t take divine contemplation to figure out what inspired this follow up to “Dragon Juice.” Still pugnacious and caustic, wallowing in nostalgia has never been Old Time Relijun’s forte, and this exclusive torture-device-cum-soul-stirrer finds the band of street corner preachers with their dander rightfully ruffled.
Before the EP’s release, however, the band will continue its west coast “23rd anniversary” grandstanding with two previously-announced California shows, along with a newly-added surprise date in Santa Rosa in Early November.
