Eschewing the typical migratory pattern of the pelican, the Chicago-based metal/post-rock band flapped their majestic wings to St. Petersburg, Russia last year. But what would a pelican want to travel to Russia for, be it bird or band? Well, I cannot speak for birds (no man can), but I can speak for bands: Pelican played a show in St. Petersburg, which has been recorded for use in a live album. Pelican have just this week released the digital version of Arktika, their Russian live document.
Birds do not exist in the digital landscape. Pelican can, but they are also fond of this physical world. Hence, the double LP version of Arktika will be out August 26, with the digital version having just been released. Anticipate the future by pre-ordering the album here. If such a pre-order places too much faith in an ideal future, then prepare by listening to Arktika in full below. Now you are prepared, like the mighty pelican itself.
