Similar to the way that Norse god Thor relies trustily on Mjölnir to summon lightning, hypnotize Natalie Portman, and defeat alien invaders of Earth with nary a few swings, L.A.-based producer and renegade collaborator M. Geddes Gengras utilizes his modular synth expertise to seemingly do everything except table his beverages (because that would be a hazard potentially detrimental to the lifespan of said modular synths). Gengras released the subtle and under-appreciated Ishi last year, and a new season almost necessitates a new venture in synthitude, because you can only spend so much time “isolated” in a synth-cave before feeling compelled to harness those creative juices, which await a conjunctive splash with all of those remnant patches. The power he must feel!
And the energy you’ll likely feel while listening to Gengras’s new album under his Personable moniker! New Lines is set for release October 8 on Peak Oil, and acquaintances with Ged’s previous work under the name should have an idea of what to expect: a feeling of the rhythm taking over, just as Britney predicted it would. A lucky 300 (the number of records pressed) will be able to dance initially. Maybe a digital download will be offered at some point thereafter.
