Corroncho is a slightly pejorative name given by people from the Colombian capital of Bogota to people from the Caribbean coast. It’s also the title of Phil Manzanera’s forthcoming collaboration with Lucho Brieva! In 2003, the Roxy Music guitarist joined forces with the Colombian artist/sculptor after working on a Spanish version of “Complicada,” a song by Chrissie Hynde, lead singer of The Pretenders. The album’s 11 tracks follow the adventures of two Latin men while highlighting a number of social issues facing modern South America, and it features contributions from Robert Wyatt, Paul Thompson, Enrique Bunbury, Chrissie Hynde, Annie Lennox, Gilad Atzmon, and Aldo Lopez Gavilan, one of Cuba’s top pianists.
Corroncho will see a November 8 release, and opening track “Lowrider” is currently available as a free download.
