Philip Glass has announced yet another symphony. This new one, Symphony No. 11, will be premiering January 31, 2017, which is also the composer’s 80th birthday. The work will be premiered by his longtime orchestral collaborator Dennis Russell Davies, who has conducted all of the composer’s prior symphonies.
Nine symphonies has been a mystical limit for many composers, including Beethoven, Schubert, Bruckner, and Mahler; Glass surpassed this with his Tenth in 2012. Since then, he has been in rare company, so it should be interesting to see what he does with the Eleventh.
Tickets to the concert, which will take place at Carnegie Hall, are available here.
