As opening sentences go, this one hardly passes muster. I could’ve striven for a cliché-driven salvo, spouted some wacky stats, or waxed artificially and sensationally for shock value but I’d rather have a great first sentence than resort to any lit-trickery. So, mis-read everything above and consider the following as this story’s first sentence, because it is truly great: E-Saggila has a new album coming out in July on BANK Records NYC called Dedicated to Sublimity!
As a child growing up in Toronto during the Gulf War, the Iraq-born techno-ist (née Rita Mikhael) found herself witness to “the destruction of her homeland from afar” and was subsequently “singled out as an immigrant from the Middle East [and] cast as an outsider.” As a result, Rita “quickly became attracted to unrelenting forms of harsh music.”
Dedicated to Sublimity is out July 13 and is the debut LP by the self-professed “power electronics hag” (I’ve gotta assume that’s her own descriptive tag on Discogs). And while visceral swaths of emotionally-charged power electronics are certainly on full display throughout, the record is also a fuller, “sublime and immersive electronic document” that bears the hallmarks of a seasoned technoise veteran.
Pre-order the digital set or the limited-to-100 blue translucent vinyl of Dedicated to Sublimity here, and close out this story properly by listening to the muscular rhythmic single “Viper” below.
