Just because they can, Akron/Family have announced that, in addition to the “standard” formats of CD and LP, their new album, S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, will be released on Special Edition Cassette. The boring formats will be issued by Dead Oceans, with Joyful Noise Recordings giving birth to the cassette; all formats are available February 8.
The Special Edition Cassette includes the entirety of the new album and also features high-quality purple tapes (a nod to Raekwon’s influence on their sound?), a free digital download of the album, and full 8-panel artwork. The whole thing is limited to 500 hand-numbered cassettes. Preorder for this eventual collector’s item begins January 17 at the Joyful Noise website.
