In a move that will finally bridge the gap between West Coast beats and UK 2-step/grime, Flying Lotus’s record label Brainfeeder will release UK producer Iglooghost’s latest EP called Chinese Nü Yr on October 30.
Chinese Nü Yr is a concept record that treads the well-worn narrative arc of “a gelatinous worm-shaped creature who wears a witch hat called xiāngjiāo. He/she is really sad because his/her existence consists of infinitely being blasted through endless wormholes into different worlds that don’t make any sense - full of floating fruit and pink mist. He/she has a voice played by my little sister but sometimes my dad. He/she is perennially sad and terrified because it doesn’t make any sense why he/she was randomly born into this existence, but he/she is also shit scared because being shot at light speed through wormholes is probably f**king terrifying.”
Listen/have your mind blown by lead track “Gold Coat,” which features the vocals of Japanese artist Cuushe.
The release will be followed by DJ Paypal’s latest footwork missive Sold Out, due November 13, and will top off a boon year for Brainfeeder, which has already offered up slabs of awesomeness this year from Thundercat, Lapalux, and Kamasi Washington.
Chinese Nü Yr:
01. Xiāngjiāo
02. Mametchi / Usohachi (feat. Mr. Yote)
03. Gold Coat (feat. Cuushe)
