Lawrence English, you sly dog. The artist, composer, founder of Room40, and amateur falconer (?) has outdone himself this year by curating an excellent lineup (as we recently reported) for his label’s annual Open Frame festival, going down at the art space Carraigeworks in Sydney, Australia.
And it starts TODAY.
Not only has he gotten William Basinski to agree to travel south of the equator to headline the first night, but he’s also managed to snag the world premiere of Jim O’Rourke’s latest electro-acoustic piece, Diffusion. On top of that, he’s convinced artist and filmmaker Makino Takashi to swing by and display his work Space Noise, which combines digital projection with 15mm film to create the illusion of a three-dimensional viewing experience. Need more evidence that you need to get your ass down under? How about another premiere, this time of an audiovisual work by Grouper and Paul Clipson entitled Hynosis Display? I believe I’ve made my point, and that’s not even the full lineup.
