Hoo, boy, this may be my first legit STOP THE PRESSES moment here in the TMT newsroom.
RVNG Intl., no strangers to these pages, have announced the latest installment in their long-running, essential FRKWYS series. This upcoming fifteenth edition features Portland, OR new age/midi ambient duo Visible Cloaks throwing down with Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano, “two prominent figures in Japan’s avant-garde world of the 80s/90s,” on serenitatem.
On the surface, this album could be seen as “ambient” or “new age,” but like much of Visible Cloaks’ work, as the duo’s Spencer Doran says, “the aim was to make a work that was not specifically ambient (or environmental), but something more multi-hued, weaving these deconstructive concepts into an album that has a deeper architecture underpinning it.”
The below video for “Stratum,” directed by Kiyotaka “Kiyo” Sumiyoshi, should entice those who need a little visual stimuli to enhance the album’s inspired sounds. FRKWYS Vol. 15: serenitatem arrives April 5 in LP, CD, and digital formats. Check the RVNG shop for pre-order details.
