It’s 2010, and old bands are getting older. Everybody knows Modest Mouse, whether you’ve disdained them since “Float On,” loved them all the way through, or only picked them up after No One’s First and You’re Next. It’s been 13 and 9 years, respectively, since K Records released The Fruit That Ate Itself and Sad Sappy Sucker (originally recorded in 1994 by Calvin Johnson). These two commercially lesser albums constitute the time when Modest Mouse was “good” to some, and the time when they were “obscure” to others (ahem We Were Dead/No One’s First fans), but come November 9, they have a chance to be just as ubiquitous as The Moon & Antarctica. Glacial Pace Recordings (Isaac Brock’s very own label) has announced an LP/CD reissue of both EPs.
Unfortunately, neither album comes with bonus tracks or features, but hey, 180-gram vinyl works too (plus a download for your newfangled iTunes)!
This weekend (October 22 and 23), Modest Mouse are also playing at Neil Young’s Annual Bridge School Benefit Concert in Mountain View, CA, alongside Grizzly Bear, Pearl Jam, Buffalo Springfield, and other big-hearted musicians playing acoustic music for disadvantaged children.
