Scott Walker’s The Childhood of a Leader OST is out in August on 4AD

Scott Walker's The Childhood of a Leader OST is out in August on 4AD

UPDATE (7/1): 4AD has confirmed the soundtrack and release date. According to the label, “Walker continues to work with long-term collaborators Peter Walsh (co-producer) and Mark Warman (musical director), with the latter conducting an orchestra comprised of 46 string players and 16 brass for the studio recording.” The OST will be pressed on limited-run transparent vinyl. Preview the song “RUN” below.

As Exclaim reports, 4AD is about to release the first solo Scott Walker material since 2012’s gargantuan Bish Bosch (our #1 album of 2012). The music is from the soundtrack to director Brady Corbet’s period drama The Childhood of a Leader, which was scored entirely by Walker. The release date is reportedly August 19 and an Amazon pre-order was available for a brief time, but the label has not yet officially confirmed the news.

The Childhood of a Leader premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year and is scheduled for a limited theatrical release in North America on July 22. It is loosely based on a Jean-Paul Sartre story under the same name. The film focuses on the life of a young American boy living in Paris during the writing of the Treaty of Versailles; it stars Bérénice Bejo, Liam Cunningham, Stacy Martin, and Robert Pattinson.

Walker’s most recent musical endeavor was his excellent collaboration with Sunn O))), Soused, which was released in early 2014.
