It’s been about six months since the unbreakable Shilpa Ray released her literate, melodically-rich breakthrough album Door Girl. Six months of repeated listening. Six months of restless pining. It felt like longer. But at last, you can say goodbye to tremors, hallucinations, and scratching that phantom itch — because NEW music from one of our favorite NYC-fixed and fixated songsters is on the way!
Ray’s two track EP Nihilism is out May 16 through Northern Spy and will be available digitally and as an o-card-housed cassette…wait, isn’t that a cassingle? Gawd, I hope so. The Cure and Billy Idol tapes, you’re gonna have company!
But even though the thing isn’t out just yet, now is the time to make appropriate use of those pupils that have been increasingly dilating over the past six months when you go and pre-order Nihilism here. It includes Ray killing it with a cover of Alice Cooper’s “Is It My Body” and the Grateful Dead-influenced deadly beauty “Shoot This Dying Horse,” which can be heard below.
