Ok, it’s not as if we like to brag or anything, but we just maybe — MAYBE — were some of the first to introduce the world to the music of Gabrielle Herbst a.k.a. GABI back in 2014.
That, of course, was before Herbst blew the whole fucking planet away with her debut LP, Sympathy, in 2015 on Daniel Lopatin’s Software label (RIP!!!!) — after which she sorta disappeared from the public eye to pursue her work as a creator and singer of operas, taking up residency at Brooklyn’s Roulette where she was commissioned to write the opera, Ashes. But she’ll be performing that very opera on May 31 in Brooklyn. (Oh yeah: she’s back, baby!)
For those who can’t quite afford to be “opera-goers,” then of course you can catch GABI at the Northside Festival music showcase at Baby’s All Right alongside Sidney Gish, Free Cake For Every Creature, Orion Sun, and others. Then, of course, us non-big-city-folks can desperately await that sophomore album we’ve been waiting for, which apparently will reportedly drop this Fall on Double Double Whammy. Stay tuned for more info. GABI, we missed ya!
