UPDATE: Dummy’s account has been reinstated.
Major moves up in the SoundCloud arena today: our buds over at Dummy have had their SoundCloud account suspended. As of right now, the page is still visible and the hosted audio still play, but “[they] can longer access to repost or upload tracks.” Apparently this freeze comes as a result of the account receiving “three strikes” for uploaded content that breaches Sony’s copyright (recall that Sony pulled their catalog from the site back in May).
The problem: SoundCloud apparently won’t tell Dummy which tracks are the source of the issue and have further been instructed by Sony not to share contact information for who folks at Dummy can contact in pursuit of resolution. For Dummy’s part, they say they’ve only ever uploaded authorized tracks.
We have only ever uploaded music that Sony have sent us to promote, so it seems ridiculous that they would want to shut down our account and prevent us from supporting new music signed to their label in the future.
This freeze is far from the first, and it’s probably not the last, what with all of SoundCloud’s new licensing deals and institution of new playback limitations. In fact, as reported in FACT (LOL), the London internet station Radar Radio temporarily had their account frozen recently, in addition to DJ Plastician.
