Last I checked, Google still hasn’t answered early 2017’s speculative whispers by purchasing SoundCloud at a considerably reduced price…So you know what that means: SoundCloud is, for the time being, left to its own devices when it comes to tackling the presumably iffy revenue model that led to them unveiling their iffy subscription option, SoundCloud Go, in March of last year.
We’ll all have to wait for further and official detail before we declare that SoundCloud has become the digital equivalent of this thing happening; but in the meantime, the (totally-not-panicky-at-all) music sharing service has announced even more new features as a general draw to its still mostly user-centered service.
Let’s not forget that SoundCloud started off as a medium by which amateur musicians could collaborate and share some of their work with whoever wanted to listen. And the service’s newest feature doesn’t lose sight of that (allowing all those budding producers to keep those stars in their eyes!). It’s called The Upload, and what it is will actually make you wonder why it took this long for SoundCloud to implement: The Upload is being marketed as a “discovery feature” that gives you a list of freshly uploaded music based off what you, as a user, have listened to previously, which is a nifty feature to have if you’re an amateur musician and/or if discovering new music is something that appeals to you.
So…yeah: SoundCloud now recommends shit.
THAT’S BASICALLY IT.
