Hey, everyone! Robobunny here with some exciting MUSIC-TECH news! SoundCloud — the company that turned the paltry concept of sharing and listening to music online into the obviously much better idea of letting users post all-caps comments directly onto cool depictions of the songs’ wave-forms that pop up in real time anytime anything “sick” happens — has gone and stepped their game up again. No, they didn’t introduce the “six-exclamation-points button” yet (that one’s still in the lab). But, according to hypebot, they have released a beta version of their new HTML5 widget to the public. Can you believe it?? Me neither, because I don’t know what that means! Let’s find out. Together.
HTML5 is a newest revision of the HTML language. HTML is like those little programming codes that you see dangling out there sometimes that look like someone accidentally misspelled “<a giraffe>”. It’s used for structuring the way we see and use all the stuff on the web, and the new one is especially notable for its helpfulness in keeping shit looking right and working right on smartphones and iPads and whatnot. (To put it another way, you know how certain porn sites you visit look all janky on your phone as opposed to on your laptop? The new HTML will help fix that.) Anyway, how does this pertain to SoundCloud? Well, the company is calling the HTML5 version “more than just a music player,” as the new widget promises better mobile support for iPads and iPhones, a new and prettier waveform design that “encourages more interactivity with the sound,” a more usable timed comments section, an easier view of the track’s title and author, and simpler sharing for Facebook, Google+, Twitter, etc. It’s all part of SoundCloud’s grand plan to get us to share more shit and advertise their company for free. WILL YOU HELP THEM?!? Y/N/M
Oh, almost forgot. To use the widget, click into the “share” functionality of a track, then click the “customizable” button, and boom: you’re one step beyond simply listening to music and one step closer to cramming it down the throats of others instead!
