I’m still an advocate for an appropriate use of capital letters in Standard written English, but a recent video upload from the ever-active St. Vincent proves (I guess) that language rules can occasionally be neglected if the message being conveyed is sufficiently oVeRwhElmiNG (see the referenced video below, in which where Annie Clark herself non-vocally announces her upcoming “Fear the Future” tour).
In addition to delivering the intensely non-verbal message that the TouR Is rEAl and begins in-earnest this August (though it isn’t really getting going until October), it seems reasonable to assume that she directed the 38-second announcement herself, given her recent directorial contribution to the female-driven “horror” anthology XX.
And as long as we’re “reasonably assuming” things: it’s reasonable to assume that this forthcoming tour is in support of an as-yet unnamed new album, which is scheduled to be released before the end of the year. Clark had previously stressed the significance of the forthcoming release to “where we are in the world,” which would certainly explain the tour title. Or…maybe the two are unrelated and “fear the future” is more a reference to that one dude and his aspirations to be omnipresent. Either way: I’m obediently terrified.
