Shit. Now I’m sorta confused, you guys.
See, as of a little while ago, I was pretty goddamned sure that Annie Clark wanted me to fear the future. BUT NOW, the people who run The Internet are telling me that Clark’s new St. Vincent album, MASSEDUCTION, is coming out (you guessed it, friends:) in the fucking FUTURE!!! (Should…should I…get, like, “excited?”)
The new LP — which features guest appearences by Kamasi Washington, Jenny Lewis, Doveman, and production by Sounwave — follows 2014’s St. Vincent (ahh, the good-old PAST! <3), as well as first single “New York.”
In a spoof press conference on Facebook, a carefully presented Clark states that “literally the only point” of the new record is “love” — soooo, maybe the future’s not gonna be such a shit-tacular place after all?? She was also courteous enough to stress that its titular portmanteau word is to be pronounced “Mass Seduction,” as opposed to “Mass Education,” which should help make it a little less confusing for all the editors out there squinting and trying to spell-check the thing.
Finally, Clark has also shared a second single from the album, “Los Ageless,” which you can listen to down below. Meanwhile, Mass-However-It’s-Spelled is out October 13…which I guess isn’t all that ominously far into the future anyways? Oh, and you can pre-order it over here to receive both singles on the spot — as in: right now, right here, in the relative security of the good ol’ specious present! Ahhhh, false comfort: god, I love it.
