Flaming Lips leader Wayne Coyne practically spilled his guts to Spin magazine recently, and the juiciest nugget HAS to be news about a planned collaboration with famous Apache Neon Indian. “We’re going to do two or three songs with him and that shit should be ready to go pretty quickly,” Coyne told the magazine, “I have a couple of tunes that he’s heard, and we’ll just do that shit and fix that up and fuck around together.”
After revealing the news, and posting a video of a song that might be fucked around with, Coyne also said that the band would be delighted to work out similar alliances with Deerhoof and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffitti and proceeded to invite both bands to tea in the garden.
Fret not Flaming Lips fans who “only like the old stuff,” the Lips also have two reissues that will totally float your boat. First up is Heady Nuggs: The First 5 Warner Bros. Records, 1992-2002 (with photo) that should be released by the end of spring and will only be pressed on vinyl. Sorry, CD fan.
Lastly, because The Flamers know that you love looking at your phone all day, they’re going to reissue Zaireeka in a special phone-based version where, similar to the original release (which was meant to be simultaneously played on four CD players), can be simultaneously played on four phones, even though you’ll still only listen to each part on their own.
