For fans of field recordings, sound manipulations, and anything filed under the “Miscellaneous” category, Brooklyn composer/sound designer Anne Guthrie’s 2014 stunner Codiaeum variegatum delivered the goods. Now, four years later, she’s about to unleash Brass Orchids, her latest solo release, on Cincinnati’s long running Students of Decay label.
Don’t let that four year gap between albums fool you into thinking she’s been slacking, though. In between solo works, she and her husband Billy Gomberg put out a tape through their Fraufraulein project. She’s also a “professional acoustician,” which is very rad (and, to be fair, sounds pretty time consuming).
While March 23 may seem like a ways away for Brass Orchids’s release, don’t worry, we’ll get there soon enough. To help kill the time, pre-order the album over here, then turn off the lights and sample a pair of tracks below. The weeks will fly by in no time.
