Narnia. Wonderland. Birmingham’s Supersonic Festival. What do these places have in common? Answer: they’re pure magic. What’s the sad difference between them? Answer: only one of them is real. (Which one is up to you.) You might not be able to step into an amazing otherworld through a large piece of furniture, but you can go to England to experience the finest in musical festival lineups, including Holly Herndon, The Pop Group, Liturgy, Gazelle Twin, Will Gregory Moog Ensemble, Liima (featuring Efterklang and Tatu Rönkko), Eternal Tapestry, Six Organs Of Admittance, Delight Is Right, Afework Nigussie, Jiří Wehle, Rhodri Davies, Phil Tyler, Flamingods, Wildbirds & Peacedrums, Happy Meals, Tomaga, Slow Magic, Apostille, Ravioli Me Away, Danes Selvhenter, Sex Swing, Woven Skull, and Circuit Des Yeux. As they say, more to be announced.
Of course, there are also a lot of really crazy cool “happening” style events occurring, too, such as the Moog Sound Lab, which Supersonic describes as a “temporary residency presenting a unique opportunity for artists to explore, experiment and create with analog sound-scaping, synthesis and effects.” The festival is partnering with all kinds of rad art peeps to do stuff like bringing sound art into the city and, um, making stuff that makes music. If you want to read about it in a way that sounds much dreamier and intellectual, check out the Supersonic website.
