The Unsound Festival is an annual music fest in Krakow, Poland that takes place at the end of October. The New York edition of the event takes place this spring. The festival explores advancement in music, including related visual arts, and features several innovative performers. So, it’s no surprise that such a progressive music festival will base its upcoming festival on the themes from a book published in 1970.
According to The Wire, this year’s Unsound theme is “Future Shock,” based on the book of the same name by futurist Alvin Toffer. Toffer’s book examined the idea of a ‘future shock,’ which can be described as “when too much change hits too fast for people to absorb,” according to author Mary Eisenhart. The performances will reflect the concept of an ‘information overload’ and the resulting consequences, similar to the experience of browsing TMT on any given day. Proposals from musicians, filmmakers, artists and others will be accepted until May 31.
More information will be announced at a later time concerning the performers, ticket prices, etc. via the Unsound website. Also, the the 1972 documentary on Future Shock is available on YouTube.
