You know what sucks most about the approaching fall and winter? It’s not the chillier weather or shorter days; it’s that damned “clarity” effect that all that crisp, cold air has on the surrounding landscape. You know: all those obnoxiously vivid colors, stark contrasts, and sharply defined edges? Yuk. Who needs THAT shit when they’re trying to relax under their covers, not talk, and stay mellow in the morning???
Luckily, as of THIS VERY FRIDAY (October 20) the HAZE is back in town. After two solid (read: amorphous) years of touring, writing, and toiling to refine their patented stoner-rock blend of blurry, blissful indistinctness, the Burlington, Vermont shoegazers known as Sleeping In are about to swoop in to take the edges off of this hard-ass change of seasons with the self-release of their debut full-length album let you in.
Whether you like your gauze-y, hazy navel-gazing deep fried to blistering, amp-malfunctioning perfection (a la Dinosaur Jr. and Hum) or blown-out past the cold reaches of the Kuiper asteroid belt (Slowdive-style), let you in has got your warm, toasty, finitude-loathing ass covered. Not convinced? Just check out the album track “Pine” down below — with it’s cosmic vocal melodies soaring amorphously high over a landscape of crumbling-mountain guitar riffs and lava-rock beats — and you’ll feel better about hitting the snooze alarm in no time.
