With non-musical and non-Walter TV pursuits aplenty, the trio of Simon Ankenman (expert canoe guide in British Colombia), Pierce McGarry (all sorts of film/art things), and Joe McMurray (solo ambient project ~j~) have more than enough separate, healthy interests to keep themselves more than occupied. But to call Walter TV a part-time band or a Mac DeMarco backing band side-project (McGarry previously, McMurray presently) would do a massive injustice to all involved. Walter TV’s stuff is not only good, but weirdly good. After releasing two not-so-quiet missives, Walter TV is now about to issue their third weirdly-good album, Carpe Diem, on September 8 via the Sinderlyn label. and we are chuffed to premiere their latest single “Begotten” here today!
Of “Begotten”, the band says, “‘Begotten’ is about getting older and losing touch with a spiritual side of life (briefly), but working on getting that back, and trying to remind oneself what is actually truly important to one’s self.” Sounds like big issue stuff, but one listen to the track and it is obvious there is also a sense of fun and ease no grown-up rumination can dispel. Calling to mind a pre-dawn opium daze, this ambiance builder is a proper fix for any self-respecting unhinged music addict. A little package of strangeness for these odd, uneven times.
Pre-order Carpe Diem on CD/CS/digital/LP (first 300 pressed on yellow opaque vinyl) here, and check out the full album tracklist and October tour dates after streaming the track down below.
(Wow…made it through all that without one “seize the day.” Thanks “Unleash Your Inner Creative Writer” community college course!)
