RIP garage rock. It’s officially over. Wavves, SoCal’s reigning kings of the garage scene, have given up the genre ghost. Instead, Mr. Wavves himself, Nathan Williams, has taken a turn toward queasy Twin Peaksian electro doo-wop with a self-titled album as Spirit Club. It came out this week via the lad’s own Ghost Ramp label, but you can totally stream it below courtesy of SoundCloud, maaaaan.
Spirit Club is the newish project of Williams, plus Sweet Valley’s Joel Williams and Andrew Caddick of Jeans Wilder. In the spirit of TOTAL DIY, the record was recorded at Nathan Williams’s L.A. home and produced by — drum roll, please — Sweet Valley. And obviously, in true Cali style, the dudes are holding the record release show on May 27 in glorious Echo Park, Los Angeles.
