I’ll spare you the opportunity of participating in another toxic “90s kid” debate; but for those of us who at least partially grew up during that illustrious (for children) decade, is there any doubt about how awesome it was from a cultural standpoint? Millennials from North America currently jump at the chance to reminisce about pogs and heyday-Nickelodeon, which is why TMT is anxious to report the following bit of news destined to have you hugging the porcelain throne as a result of nausea post-nostalgia: the score for the original live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie (1990) is getting released on vinyl tomorrow, October 19, courtesy of Waxwork Records. (The previous sentence alone, I suspect, was basically enough to inspire instantaneous vertigo. Barf barf barf!)
The plot of TMNT may or may not exist in a haze nearly thirty years after the movie’s release, but as soon as you hear the ninja-inspired sounds crafted by John DuPrez, it might all come back to you. I’m personally reminded of a weirdly unthreatening Shredder, plus the mind-blowing paradox of turtles trained in martial arts who simultaneously exude the disposition of a teenage Californian (despite their living in NYC). Something supplemental was clearly in the drug-infused water during the late 80s and 90s.
