“Noisy, experimental, Celtic-psych folk is the shit,” said NO ONE EVER as recently as a few years ago.
But then: spooky songstress and possible-wizard Natalie Mering (a.k.a. Weyes Blood) poofed onto the scene and zapped all that disparaging shittalk by conjuring two albums within two years of just that kind of witchy, magical folk music from the Mexican Summer label. And that was the end of the story, right? Right. Case closed. Probably.
Except no! Like two seconds ago, Mering hopped onto her magic cauldron to chant and trumpet the release of yet another Weyes Blood album. This latest one is called Front Row Seat to Earth, and it’s being released (once again by Mexican Summer) on October 21. I know, right? I didn’t believe it either, but then I saw that it’s all decked out for pre-order in a variety of formats and everything. Gee — noisy, experimental, Celtic-psych folk sure is the shit, isn’t it?
And, speaking of “the shit,” there’s also a video for lead single “Seven Words,” a slice of 70’s-tinged A.M. radio folk that the press release calls “an expression of that eternal need to leave, to cut ties—the need for the seeker to abandon and explore,” which you can watch down below. A complete tracklisting and a whole bunch of fall tour dates are down there too, and I think I did a pretty awesome job formatting them all, so check those out too when you’re done swooning over the noisy, experimental, Celtic-psych folk magic, k? Thx! :-)
