The Celts and Picts were really into post-punk. The ancient Greeks were deep into chillwave and the Mesopotamians were into minimal techno. Obviously the Vikings were super into psych-rock. These are basic tenets of Western Civilization; ask anyone, if you slept through that chapter during freshman year of college. And so it is with great fanfare that Wooden Shjips once more set sail from the dark winding river of [something I’m too lazy to look up/make up] that runs through the halcyon halls of Valhalla, bringing their bounteous crop of experimental psych rock to scattered peoples of North America once more.
Back to Land is the name of the new album, out November 12 on Thrill Jockey. (Odin’s favorite!) The band’s acoustic version of single “These Shadows” has been floating around the internet lately, most recently showing up below this paragraph, and it’s available as a bonus 7-inch when you preorder the Back to Land LP from Thrill Jockey. Fans can also get a freeeeee downloooooad ooooooohhhhh. Preordering is not guaranteed to keep your eternal soul from daily death in monumental battles for the amusement of the old gods, but between you and me, it’s the next best thing. Oh yeah, Wooden Shjips have a tour date or two coming atcha this fall, too.
