Less than two years have passed since Merge Records last honored us with a Wye Oak release, but that doesn’t mean a lot hasn’t changed in the interim. Since Tween, 2016’s “surprise album” of fleshed-out-takes, we have witnessed the previously-impossible-to-fathom fall and rise of THE great powers in society (print magazines and vape stores respectively). And don’t even get me started on what has happened since January 20, 2017! (Seriously, do you think we will sit by while the most powerful entity in the world nonchalantly rips Coke Zero from us and replaces it with Coke Zero Sugar?!?! UN-believable.)
All of these obvious “political catastrophes” aside, we can still count on some things staying the same…or, staying at the same high-quality at least! Andy Stack and Jenn Wasner’s latest album, The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs, is out on April 6 and is yet another Wye Oak release that will be rightfully played at excessively-regular intervals. Embracing changes in both the music they play and where they make it (much of TLIC, TFIR was recorded together and separately between Durham, NC and Marfa, TX), the duo has created a body of work that shines like a songwriting beacon in this often dour music era.
The title track and “It Was Not Natural” can be heard down below. Feel free to peruse the album packages (ooh, “sand and sky” colored vinyl!) and pre-order The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs while you’re listening. Below is an album tracklist and a lengthy list of upcoming tour dates. As the slogan goes, “Have a Wye Oak and a smile…it’s the real thing!”
