Brooklyn duo Xeno & Oaklander are back with their fifth album, Topiary, out June 3 via Ghostly. You can check out the new track “Marble” below. For this album, the duo of Liz Wendelbo and Sean McBride (a.k.a. Martial Canterel) started the recording process completely from scratch, writing, arranging, recording, and mixing the album within a month at Tom Tom Club’s studio, The Clubhouse.
“What is deep inside of us is a reflection of what is above us. And electricity runs through it all,” says Wendelbo of the album’s creation and themes. Topiary’s artwork is inspired by a similar concept: it’s based on a form of crystallography (the study of atomic and molecular structure, thanks Wikipedia) and is essentially “a blown-up X-ray of protein molecules, shot through an electron microscope.”
