There is almost no way that I could make this post more exciting, unless it were to announce that Fun Fun Fun Fest has decided to become a year-round touring affair, with cash give-aways and an alternating cast of celebrities in fishnet t-shirts (‘cause why not?).
The lineup for the fifth Fun Fun Fun Fest is now official, and it is so packed with gold it’s absurd. This year features a third day, stretching out the fest from November 5 to 7 in Austin, TX’s Waterloo Park, and beginning with Weird Al Yankovic (to think that I once thought Neil Hamburger emceeing this year’s Do-Division Fest in Chicago was the greatest thing ever!). Like Pitchfork with its token “hip hop” act per annum, there’s something for everybody. You can begin with the sort-of-indie stage (Orange), with Dirty Projectors, Devo, MGMT, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Wavves, and a surfeit of awesome etc.’s. You can then meander over to the Black Stage (whoo! punk rock?) to get covered in food coloring by Gwar and re-live your high school fantasy of seeing Bad Religion, old or not. Suicidals can get in on the action too; ST is on the list, along with Mastodon, Kylesa, and Municipal Waste. The Blue Stage is an amalgamation of most other genres with anything to do with R&B, soul, rap, or electronic something-or-other (Yelle to RJD2 and Dâm-Funk), while the Yellow Stage (including live action wrestling, Monotonix, Cold Cave, and a veggie hot dog eating contest) is just straight-up miscellaneous.
