Yolo this! Yolo that! That’s all I ever hear from the kids these days. Well, why not ease up on the Yolo for a second and get into some Yo La. Yo La Tengo that is! Hello, I am somebody’s dumb indie rock dad and I’m hear to tell you that Yo La Tengo have a new album coming out soon.
Yo La Tengo’s 13th album is titled Fade and it will be released on January 15. Like basically every Yo La Tengo record released in roughly the last two decades, Matador will be handling the release. If you’re a cool indie rock dad like myself, you’ll want to pre-order the record immediately. Well, hey champ. you can do that right here at Matador’s website. If you order the record’s deluxe edition, you will receive a bonus 7-inch featuring covers of Todd Rundgren’s “I Saw the Light” and Times New Viking’s “Move to California.” Todd Rundgren? Times New Viking? In one place? Wowzers.
Now, sit down and let’s listen to “Before We Run,” the first released track from Fade. Go right here to listen to the song and, while you’re there, also watch the animated video. It was done by Emily Hubley! The sister of Georgia Hubley! You know, the drummer for Yo La Tengo! You kids don’t know anything. Anyway, “Before We Run” is actually Fade’s closing song. I assume that’s a typo, considering that the song is less than 10 minutes long.
As per tradition, Yo La Tengo are doing a series of Hanukkah shows at the esteemed Hoboken, NJ venue Maxwell’s. Though we are not Jewish, I am dragging you to all those shows. After that, I will drag you to a number of shows on Yo La Tengo’s world tour, which begins in January. Look, kid, you’re going to watch a lot of Yo La Tengo, whether you like it or not.
