Alright, goth kids; I know you try real hard to frown in photos and avoid gleefulness, but even y’all have got to crack a smile when you hear about this. Prince of mascara tears Johnny Jewel has done not one, not two, but seven bang-on remix jobs on two tracks from Zola Jesus’s record of magnum malaise, Okovi. Theeeeeere’s that smile!
Wiseblood (Johnny Jewel Remixes) is OUT NOW via the coven label Sacred Bones and the aptly named Italians Do It Better. Future-friendly goths can stream it on Apple Music or Spotify or check out just one of the many cold, synthy remixes of “Wiseblood” from Jewel down below. If you’re what we call “analogue goth,” you can get the EP on vinyl on January 25. The wait will just make the emotions more potent, believe me.
Pretending to be an ’80s maxi single (typical Johnny), the EP consists of seven remixed versions of two songs: “Wiseblood” and “Ash to Bone.” Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, stupid parents.
The track streaming below also appears in Felix Van Groeningen’s new film, Beautiful Boy, starring Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell. It’s about a father who cannot understand the life of his troubled teenage son. So…you know…the joke kinda writes itself here.
Before you start your makeup routine, go ahead and pre-order the album now. If you use your parents’ money, it’s more punk-rock.
