Zombies! They’re kind of played out! Zomby! He is less played out! While the world continues to pump out books/movies/television shows about the prospect of a zombie-saturated future, UK producer Zomby hasn’t been pumping out much of anything in the past few years. His last release was a 2009 EP entitled One Foot Ahead of the Other and he hasn’t put out a full-length since 2008’s Where Were U in ‘92. But the man’s getting back in the actually-releasing-music game soon, as he has gone and signed to the venerable 4AD label.
First order of business for the 4AD-signed Zomby is putting out a new single, “Natalia’s Song,” on a limited edition 10-inch on May 10. If the song sounds at all familiar to you, then you must have heard it on the mix Burial and Kode 9 did for the final show of Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs, which featured the song. If you’re a time traveler from the future and the song sounds familiar to you, then it may be because you heard it on Zomby’s full-length debut for 4AD, set for release later this year.
To bide the time between releasing the “Natalia’s Song” single and that forthcoming full-length, Zomby will be making an appearance at the May 13-15 iteration of ATP. That’s the one curated by Animal Collective! That’s also the one featuring the likes of Ariel Pink, Atlas Sound, Gang Gang Dance, Big Boi, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Lee “Scratch” Perry. Also, Animal Collective will be there!
