Perhaps the most appropriately titled release of this still-young year, Hectic Shakes is jittery, restless, a bad pill at a rave and/or the comedown that stalks you into your sober hours. The Fear, actualized. Even when it occasionally comes up for air, as on closer “Raw Mind’s” quieter passages, it’s enough to abet a quick glance over one’s shoulder. All a roundabout way of saying it’s vintage Christoph de Babalon, who had an evergreen 2018 in the form of a reissue of his jungle nightmare If You’re Into It, I’m Out of It, as well as a further compendium of archival material. These Shakes suggest the bad times are gonna keep on rolling, and CdB couldn’t have it any other way:
