As a late summer heatwave and wildfire season raged across my neck of the woods, with the region blanketed by a thick layer of smoke and ash, I couldn’t help but feel the need for a little escape. Thankfully, our good friends down the coast, Inner Islands, have a most mellow antidote to my anxieties. Sea of Leaves is the latest cassette from Wisconsin alchemist of relaxation Inner Travels, and we’ve got the first taste, “Cascading Moss,” streaming below. If you’re familiar with Inner Travels’ previous work, including last year’s Clear Seeing (also on Inner Islands), then there is much more to love here. You can probably guess it from my opening, but I’m a fall kinda guy: Pumpkin Spice lattes, NFL Sundays, Halloween movies, and soothing ambient tunes for drizzly Seattle days. Coincidentally, Inner Islands drops Sea of Leaves on the first day of fall, September 22. Embrace “Cascading Moss” below, and cop the tape or the digital when it comes out in a few weeks.
