Like the mythical Atlantis that presumably prides itself on catering to fish and has a roundtable of Merfolk that dictates policy for the underwater nation, “New Atlantis” may not have been super well-known to beings outside of its immediate vicinity before now.
Although London-based producer India Jordan (along with Deadboy) did co-found a label that goes by that name, it’s more likely New Atlantis’s increasingly popular social event/parties — hosted monthly at Rye Wax in the Peckham district of London — which explain the localized “frenzy” for music that is very much about meditation and floating through sun-beaten clouds without concern for destination. Jordan and Deadboy have naturally buoyed/played the event, while other artists like Yamaneko, Webstarr, and Eye Measure have enthusiastically joined the explicitly New Age “fray.” Hmm…there might be a next step to be taken here?
Yup. And that literal, phsyical next step — not one taken spiritually, as a person aspires to reach the next plateau of enlightenment — is the very first New Atlantis compilation, entitled New Atlantis Volume 1, which is being released TODAY (June 30). Snag your copy right here and sample the entire album via the embed below. Here’s hoping that this release christens a new age of raging ambient/new-age parties popping up internationally (that would make me so happy; I love a good “ambient rager”). At the very least, though, it should help put New Atlantis…on the map?
