In today’s News That Will Make You Feel Old, here’s a reminder that DJ Shadow has been dropping beats long enough to have his own Best of, last year’s Reconstructed: The Best of DJ Shadow. (Last year he also released an even fancier Best of box set, Reconstructed: The Definitive DJ Shadow. It’s different because it’s DEFINITIVE, see.) But today’s DJ Shadow news isn’t just about making you feel like an early midlife crisis is coming on, oh no! It’s also about how DJ Shadow is touring North America this late summer/fall. Which is good! See? Stop feeling horrible about where you’re at in life right now and GET SOME CONCERT TICKETS!!!!
This is why I don’t work in marketing. Anyway, DJ Shadow is fresh off a two-week stint in Europe and Japan, and he’s bringing his All Basses Covered 2013 tour to select US and Canadian cities. All Basses Covered is different from previous tours because DJ Shadow is incorporating previously unreleased work and live remixes by ditching drum pads (for now) and going with digital software and Pioneer CDJs. “To me it doesn’t matter if it’s a crate of records or a stack of CDs or a playlist of MP3s. I still buy vinyl and I would still prefer to play vinyl where possible,” DJ Shadow says, just in case you were like, “Ugh, even this guy’s into laptop wizardry now?” Until Shadow’s latest tour kicks off, you can check out a very special mix the San Francisco-based legend did for Diplo “and friends” at the BBC’s Radio 1 online.
