Lorely Rodríguez, a.k.a. Empress Of, has announced her debut LP, Me. The L.A.-born Honduran-American has been leaving a mark in the Latin electronic pop scene since 2012, having released two EPs before her upcoming long-format debut, out September 11 on Terrible Records. But do not let the album’s title fool you. This is not a despotic ruler’s proclamation in league with Louis XIV’s “L’État c’est Moi!.” Rodríguez decided to baptize her LP thusly since it’s almost a musical diary of her 2014 trips to Valle de Bravo and Montreal; two experiences that clearly inspired her songwriting process.

Rodríguez will be taking her dreamy-but-vigorous synth pop around the world this fall. Eschewing the ethereal trappings of her previous work for a more visceral style on Me, Rodríguez came up with a sufficiently beat-centric sound to work on the dancefloor while keeping just enough roughness to claim experimental credentials, making this a particularly good time to catch Empress Of live.
