George Harrison: The Apple Years 1968-75 to be released this month as a box set

George Harrison — the Buddha Beatle, the Sitar Swami, the Dark “Downward Dog” Horse (please feel free to use these) — had a remarkable solo career following the Fab Four split, which is now being repackaged into a newly announced box set titled George Harrison: The Apple Years 1968-75. Included in the set are George’s first six solo albums for Apple (remastered using the original analog recordings) as well as a limited book and DVD. The book contains an introduction by George’s son Dhani Harrison, essays by radio producer/writer Kevin Howlett, and previously unpublished photos. This set is intended as a companion to Harrison’s 2004 box, The Dark Horse Years 1976-92, and features the albums Wonderwall Music, Electronic Sound, All Things Must Pass, Living in the Material World, Dark Horse, and Extra Texture (Read All About It).

For those who can’t handle this much Harrison, each of the six remastered albums will also be available as separate CD releases when the box drops on September 23. Many people who aren’t Harrison fanatics won’t recognize albums like Wonderwall Music, which soundtracked the 1968 film Wonderwall and was the first solo LP released by a Beatle, or Electronic Sound, which the Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands calls “squalls of cavernous sound, white noise explosions, beautiful delicate patterns.” And attention completists: Wonderwall Music, Living in the Material World, Dark Horse, and Extra Texture will each feature rare, previously unheard tracks. Not to mention Universal Music Group’s CEO, Max Hole said of the release, “George Harri$on is a mu$ical icon and one of the mo$t imaginative and influential arti$ts of all time.” How insightful… George would’ve loved you, Max Hole.
