Paula Temple is set to follow up last year’s Colonized 12-inch with another banger for the club set on London-based R&S Records. Deathvox contains a trio of new tracks from the British DJ, who recently relocated to Berlin. Both sides find Temple working through techno variations that toy with modern trends — mutant half-speeds, droning, distorted bass, and melodic synth work.
In his review of Colonized for Resident Advisor, Angus Finlayson rightly pointed out an intent to inject “some political energy back into the form” of modern techno. This orientation carries over to her latest work, most notably on culminating track “Ful,” named for a European border policy-challenging Swedish art group that earned Temple’s respect. Politics and progression also work their way into Noise Manifesto, the label run by Temple, which carries a set of ideals not usually made so explicit in the post-rave world of modern clubs.
Get radical on October 28 — until then, enjoy “Colonized” below.
