Sorry, people with poor eyesight. While the joining of NYC label DFA with Houston rapper Slim Thug would be unexpected and intriguing, it is not a thing that is actually happening. I know, it would have been great, but it’s not real. Maybe Paul Wall can sign to Kompakt. Probably not, though. Here are the real things: Toronto-based art rocker Slim Twig is now signed to DFA. To celebrate said signing, the label will reissue his self-released 2012 album A Hound at the Hem on October 28.
Recorded and self-produced in the fall of 2010, A Hound at the Hem is a song suite inspired by Vladimir Nabokov’s creep classic novel Lolita. Like many a Canadian record, the album features string arrangements by Owen Pallett. Watch the video for penultimate track “Maintain the Charade” below. More releases are planned for the union of Slim Twig and DFA, but this reissue will warm you to their joining until then. Slim Thug last released Boss Life in 2013.
A Hound at the Hem tracklist:
01. Heavy Splendour
02. Clerical Collar
03. Widow Were You Younger
04. Shroud by the Sheetful
05. All This Wanting
06. Hover on a Sliver
07. Maintain the Charade
08. Blonde Ascending (Come into the Clatter)
